There’s a trend going around here in Hollywood that I’m starting to dislike; it’s called the Reboot. It’s when you take a movie and remake it with your own spin on it, be it with better special effects or an updated retelling of a story. Some successful examples include 2005’s “Batman Begins,” 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk” and 2009’s “STAR TREK.” Now my question is, why must their be SO MANY reboots all of a sudden? Has Hollywood run out of ideas? Here are some planned reboots coming to a theater near you:
Superman: Man of Steel
Robocop
WarGames
Poltergiest
Alien (REALLY???)
Conan the Barberian
The Crow (WHY???)
Escape from New York (Again… WHY???)
Fantastic Four (Because a fourth time is a charm)
Footloose (No comment)
Ghostbusters
Gremlins
Highlander (I WILL NOT see this)
Jurassic Park (I just don’t get this)
Police Academy (this is a goner before it’s even made)
Spider-Man
The Warriors
Sorry, but these were in my opinion some of the best movies to originally come out. Why in the hell do they need to be remade? When I go to the movies, I like to see stories never told before, effects never seen before, it’s my form of escape. How many times must I watch the story of how Superman’s home planet of Krypton exploded and he ends up crash-landing in Kansas? If a movie was good to begin with, why trample over those who put their blood, sweat and tears into it by making another one and then saying “this is the new standard.”
Leave well enough alone. Come up with something new and stop messing with classics.
